Effectively Launching Project Based Learning Instructional Coaching
New project-based learning teachers need loads of personalized, authentic, and collaborative support. It should also be uncomplicated too–at least at first.
In my experience coaching in a PBL setting, newer teachers have difficulty identifying where to put their energy. Common core implementation, exhibitions, field trips, reading and writing, differentiation, classroom management, class culture, numeracy development, and etc. all compete for attention.
One way to narrow the focus is to establish where the new teacher’s vision for success overlaps with the coaching lens that the veteran teacher or coach brings to the work.
The Project Based Learning Coaching Launch outlined in the document below helps teacher and coach establish a common vision, clarify expectations, set norms, and determine a workable schedule.
Enjoy, and please let me know in the comments how you might use or modify this to suit your needs as a coach, pbl teacher, or principal.
